ELAC, Stylish Big Sounding Speaker

A truly remarkable speaker leaving all competition lost in a storm of sound waves. Why? Let’s admit it. First thing people notice about a speaker is it’s looks and we do this for many reasons. Fortunately, it’s not an overbearing ‘bangbox’ design but quite the opposite. In-fact deceivingly proportionally elegant in size and a stylish high gloss lacquer finish, so it has single handedly won the girlfriend/wife battle for you.

An individuals taste/choice in Music makes the journey of finding the right speaker an arduous task, especially when there’s two opinions included in the equation. you can spend countless weekends travelling from store to store auditioning different speakers in different environments and trying to remember what they sounded like at this store and that store ,oh it’s too hard. AC-DC, Celine Dion, Daft Punk, Red Hot Chili Peppers to Beethoven, Elac have hit the bulls-eye with this Baby. As a bonus it comes with full German design, engineering and manufacture. A rare combination in todays World. This is certainly a plus for alot of entry level Audiophiles and try and find another competitors product to match.

So how does it do this?

Two 140mm aluminium sandwich bass woofers/drivers working in tandem with a high quality rubber surround for a quick tight accurate response all the way down to 35hz. The second bass driver becomes de-coupled above the 550hz range and starts to operate as a midrange driver. This creates better efficiency so you can use lesser powered amplifiers but by no means is it an efficient speaker. Pump a horse load of current into this speaker and it will perform.

What kind of amplifier? Well at an entry level to start making them ‘sing’ I would recommend for surround sound a Denon AVR3310 and for two channel atleast a Cambridge AZUR 740A, don’t waste your time with any model below. You will put your components into protection mode, not a good situation. The bonus is that the FS127 has a built in overload protection feature.

Producing a 25khz accurate high frequency for natural sounding string instruments is a 25mm Titanium single moulded tweeter. A deep-drawn dome and bobbin to provide for low distortions. The latest design comes with a baffle to eliminate deffraction and of course those prying little fingers that can do permanent damage to our beloved tweeter once pressed in. It will have your audio taste buds salivating to the sound of fingers moving up and down on the frets of a Guitar.

A well reinforced cabinet to equals a well tuned  resonances and high quality gold plated bi-wired terminals for the audiophile or introduced novice.

Loudspeakers are influenced by room acoustics. The shape, furnishings, and walls can offer results in bass reproduction which is too strong. Most people place their speakers to close to walls and corners to get them out of the way. A two-piece bass control plug is provided that can partially or fully close the rear firing bass port, so the system can be tuned to overcome the influence of room acoustics or improper speaker placement. This way, the upper bass output will be reduced, while the deep bass area will be slightly increased. This results in a deep, tight bass sound.

It also has downward firing bass port and combined with rear firing bass produced plenty of tight responsive bottom end. You might want to experiment with speaker placement to gain the optimum results for your room. By moving the speaker away from the wall removes it from the “Dead Zone”, sometimes as much as 1.5 meters. You will notice the difference. Save yourself some heartache and audition this speaker. German technology is certainly responsible for creating a loudspeaker with such clarity and big sounding tight bottom end. Be aware though, it does take sometime ‘warming up’ so be patient or take my word for it and just go buy it.
